With the most sophisticated weather monitoring technology, the Orion LX- Weather Station offers an easy-to-use, Internet-ready interface that is operational straight from the box. There are no moving parts to wear out or calibrate. And there is no programming or complicated configuration required.

The Orion LX Weather Station consists of a high-tech, all-in-one sensor module and the Orion Weather MicroServer. Display options include computer software and Columbia Weather proprietary LCD touch-screen Display Console.

The Orion LX sensor module includes ultrasonic wind direction and speed measurements, an impact rain gauge, and capacitive relative humidity, temperature and barometric pressure sensors.

Running Linux operating system, the powerful Orion Weather MicroServer provides FTP output, as well as a browser user interface for network applications. It includes two serial communication ports and datalogging capability.

High accuracy and fine resolution make this new system ideal for precision weather monitoring. Orion sensors meet FAA and WMO specs for aviation operations, as well as EPA requirements for scientific environmental monitoring applications.

Barometric Pressure, Temperature, and Humidity

Barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity measurements are combined in an advanced sensor module utilizing a capacitive measurement method for each parameter.

Barometric pressure is measured using a silicon-based sensor. The sensor has minimal hysteresis and excellent repeatability, as well as outstanding temperature and long-term stability.

Temperature is measured with a ceramic sensor.

Relative humidity measurement is based on capacitive technology. The sensor is highly accurate with negligible hysteresis and excellent long-term stability in a wide range of environments.

This module is mounted in a specially-designed radiation shield which protects the sensors from both scattered and direct sunlight and precipitation. The composite material in the plates offers excellent thermal characteristics and UV stabilized construction. The white outer surface reflects radiation, while the black inside absorbs accumulated heat.

The internal sensor module is easily replaceable and readily available as a spare component.

Wind Measurement

Both wind speed and direction are measured using advanced ultrasonic technology. The sensor utilizes ultrasound to determine horizontal wind readings. The array of three equally-spaced ultrasonic transducers on a horizontal plane is an ideal design that ensures accurate wind measurement from all directions, without blind angles or corrupted readings.

The wind sensor has no moving parts, which makes it virtually maintenance free.

Rainfall Measurement

Rainfall is measured with an impact sensor, which detects the size and impact of individual rain drops. The signals resulting from the impacts are proportional to the volume of the drops. Hence, the signal from each drop can be converted directly to the accumulated rainfall.

This measurement method eliminates flooding and clogging, as well as wetting and evaporation losses.

Additional Calculated Parameters

Data from these sensors are computed to provide calculated parameters including Dew Point, Heat Index, Wind Chill, Degree-Day Temperatures, and Density Altitude.

WeatherMaster 2000 Software

This professional-grade software is designed to optimize the capabilities of Orion Weather Stations. Providing real-time computer weather monitoring, WeatherMaster offers:

- Display and automatic logging of all measured and calculated parameters
- Interface with CAMEO/ALOHA software for plume modeling and evacuation corridor forecasting
- An open Microsoft Access- database for data archival with easy retrieval and compatibility with other Windowsï¿1⁄2-based programs
- On-the-fly graphing and trend display of all parameters
- Alarm notification via computer, email, pager, or cell phone
- Multi-station monitoring and data acquisition
- Quick-North orientation

Optional Weather Display Console

The Orion Weather Display Console- uses intelligent- touch-screen technology. With its programmable microprocessor and abundant memory, the console can display weather information, perform complex computations, and store relatively large amounts of weather data.

The Orion Weather Display features a graphic LCD (320 x 240 pixels) having a luminescent white background with blue text and images for legibility. The screens are designed to be viewed clearly from a distance. The display console is flexible and can be factory-programmed to suit specific market and industry requirements.

Optional in this configuration. Console or Software required at a minimum. Choose either or both.
