Not bad |

Actually, not bad for this price. People complaning about wireless range should rather read a few lines on 868 MHz transmission...
My worst complaint: I need to attach this to my home automation system based on FHEM and running on my DSL router - consequently I need a Linux interface, or at least a protocol description to cook one myself

given the total experience - JUNK |

Nice unit when worked. After rain water got into the wind unit and corroded the sensor. The response from LaCrosse was a constant exchange of e-mails with colored, big-font questions and obsessive admonitions about batteries (which brand, how old, etc) but no real resolution. I am now left with the unit that has no wind sensor.
Also, the software to transfer data to the PC is (again) nice when it works. Almost every time when the computer is put on standby the synchronization with the weather unit drops (which is understandable) but when the computer wakes up re-synchronization either happens with a long delay(tens of minutes or even hours) or requires manual resynchronization. Even worse is the situation when the central unit loses communication with temperature, rainfall or wind sensors. To re-establish communication, LaCrosse requires to take out all batteries, put them in a specific order and jump through hoops. All in all a FRUSTRATING experience

Not as good as you expect |

This is my second LaCrosse weather station. I had hoped for a better result the second time around. I was wrong.
The line of sight range was not 200 feet. I needed to get the wind gauge to within 80 feet, in clear view of the receiver before it would pick up the signal.
I still have 2 other thermometers that are nearly in sync with each other. The 2812 is usually 2-4 degrees warmer, which is bothersome to me since I live in an area where frost and ice can be harmful to my orchard and garden.
Customer service is a joke. I had a mechanical issue that needed to be resolved when I bought the 2812 in Dec. 2010. The email exchanges were very short and never answered my questions. Last week I had a total destruction of the wind gauge. I tried to get in touch with LaCrosse. No reply phone call. All the email said was buy one at a "discounter" they recommend.
When I need another weather station I will not buy from them again. Fool me twice, but not three times.

Horrible wireless |

Do not buy this unit unless you plan to have the sensors within 40 feet of the display or you plan to put the display outside. 200 feet (the advertised range) is gossly overstated. The equipment is also flimsy and cheap. Save up for a better unit, this one is horrible. I would give it zero rating but one was the lowest available.

La Crosse WS-2812U-IT Test Results |
December 14, 2010 |
Reviewer: JOE AMADEO from PLEASANT HILL, CA United States |

After 7 days of testing here at WeatherBuffs.com, we have found the WS-2812U-IT to be a remarkable unit for its price. No wireless we have seen in the $125-250 competes.
Initial set up failed. But a reset of the anemometer transmitter & a restart of the T/H solved the problem. Connection has been constant since.
Compared to the Davis, we are impressed: 1) Barometer +- .01, 2) Outdoor temp +-2F, Outdoor Humidity +- 3-5pts. No wind eval yet.
Indoor temp & humidity appear to be +-4F, +- 4-6pts respectively. Console does not have a backlight but is large and easy to read. Rain gauge seems to report too much, i.e. Davis shows .12"; 2812 shows .18" today.
The wireless to USB feature is a great. Wireless connection is a "transceiver" and communication wirelessly back and forth was easy and fun! For the overall cost and so many features that actually work, this unit is the best release since the 2310s & 2315s were discontinued. We'll keep testing and keep updating this post.
